Housed at the Wolfson and Kendall Campuses, Tools for Success is a Miami Dade College and National Science Foundation (NSF) program that offers academic and financial support to students majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields. The goal of Tools for Success is to prepare students academically so that they will successfully complete their AA degrees, transfer to four-year institutions and succeed in their STEM careers.

Students participating in this program will benefit from a full range of intensive and customized student services such as advisement, mentoring, transfer and career counseling, and special courses designed to help them succeed in STEM.

Spring 2010 Two TFS Sophomores have been accepted into the Summer Medical and Dental Education Programs (SMDEP) at prestigious institutions.  SMDEP is a FREE (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer academic enrichment program that offers freshman and sophomore college students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation.  Amanda Nelson – Duke University and Daniela Otero – Yale University.

Spring 2010 TFS Sophomore, Vanessa Vietes, was also accepted into SMDEP at Duke University, Yale University and the University of Virginia.  Vanessa turned down all three offers and accepted a Research fellowship through Boston University’s SURF program.

Spring 2010 TFS Sophomore, Eva Sevilla, will return to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) during the summer of 2010 to continue her research on the environmental impact of different structures around Berkeley.  Sponsored by the US Department of Energy, Eva turned down two other internship offers to return to LBNL.
